The Southern Hemisphere offers some of the best places for stargazing, which you simply can't get anywhere else in the world.

Winter is one of the best times of year to take the opportunity to stargaze as the nights are longer and the days are shorter.

To capture the best celestial sights, Next Vacay has collated a list of the top five best places in Australia to snuggle up and watch the stars.

Scroll through to find out where they are...

New South Wales' Royal National Park is at the very top of the list.

According to Next Vacay, the world's second oldest national park is the most popular location in Australia to take a glimpse at the stars.

The limited air and light pollution surrounding the park makes it an ideal location to stargaze with experts recommending going when the moon is not full, so as to make the sky as dark as possible.

Grampians National Park in Victoria ranks in at second on the list as it boasts a fantastic, clear view of the sky.

The park has many routes for hikers, including the climb to the highest peak at Mount William or the Reed Lookout point.

When night falls, these high altitude points are perfect for stargazing.

Springbrook National Park comes in at third on the list.

The Settlement Day Area within the park is one of the most well known spots for stargazing.

The park also has a "Springbrook Observatory" which is a great place for visitors to catch an up-close look at celestial activity.

The prime time to visit is during a new moon.

Kakadu National Park is the fourth most popular stargazing spot to visit in Australia.

Unlike the other parks, the best time to watch the stars at Kakadu is in Autumn or Spring.

The largest national park in Australia offers many wide open spaces to catch a glimpse of night activity.

It is also situated closer to the Milky Way which makes it a prime stargazing spot.

Freycinet National Park rounds off the list, coming in at fifth.

The Tasmanian park offers breathtaking views of water and mountain ranges, making it a picturesque location to sit and watch the sun go down and the stars light up.

The Hazard Mountains provide the perfect backdrop for a night of stargazing.
