The Royal Parks organisation has addressed the countless items being left in the Queen's memory

The Royal Parks organisation have asked the public to stop laying Paddington bear items as they have a negative impact on parks' wildlife.

Thousands of mourners across the nation have been laying tributes to the Queen following her death. A recurring item has been Paddington Bear teddies and his favourite marmalade sandwiches following their Platinum Jubilee scene together.

In the sketch, Paddington offers the Queen a marmalade sandwich out of his hat before she pulls her own out of her handbag. The heartwarming scene went down a storm with the public who classified the pair as "close friends," first meeting back in 1986.

Since her death, the public has been laying Paddington-related items at parks and memorials but have now been told to refrain. The Royal Parks organisation, which is in charge of the floral tribute garden set up in Green Park, warned against leaving marmalade sandwiches.

The charity said: "We are asking people not to leave marmalade sandwiches because of the negative impact on the park's wildlife." Mourners are still able to leave teddies and other artefacts, they added, however, the organisation "would prefer that they didn't" for sustainability reasons.

They added: "Our priority at the moment is to manage the huge volume of flowers and tributes that are being left in the Green Park floral tribute garden. We will carefully store any teddies and artefacts that have been left and will work closely with our partners, including Buckingham Palace, to agree what we do with them over the next few months with discretion and sensitivity."
