FLEXISPOT Q8 STANDING DESK REVIEW.
With the FlexiSpot Q8 standing desk, the company is combining eight different features to power its most interesting flagship product yet. The Q8 has a bunch of bells and whistles that make it the most impressive standing desk that I’ve ever used. However, is it worth the high price tag? This is my FlexiSpot Q8 review.
Even for the uninitiated standing desk builders out there, the FlexiSpot Q8 should only take 15-25 minutes to build. Though two people are recommended for the build process, especially when it comes to flipping the desk over once built, I managed to get it done alone.
Like other FlexiSpot desks, the Q8 comes in two boxes. The legs are in one and the desktop is in another. The setup process for this unit involves fitting the legs, feet, and cable management tray. It shouldn’t take long at all with the included allen key.
I opted for the black frame, for a more subtle look, but the white seems like a great option, too. Both variants come with the bamboo desktop, which looks and feels great. The edges are kept smooth to avoid any knocks, which is especially good if kids are nearby.
Plugging in the FlexiSpot Q8 for the first time is pretty exciting. Sure, there’s the usual testing of the motors, as you send the desk up and down over and over again, but the Q8 has some bonus features to explore that make charging devices an absolute breeze.
With power enabled, the Q8’s Direct Recharge becomes available. Found alongside the four height preset buttons are a USB-C port capable of up to 45 W and a USB Type-A port that can supply up to 18 W. This makes it super simple to plug in any devices that are in need of a speedy recharge.
If you’ve ditched the cable and prefer wireless, the Q8 has got you covered there, too. A built-in wireless charger means users can place their compatible phone, tablet, or earphones on the marked part of the desk to start charging at up to 10 W. Having an embedded charger is super clean!
Other key features include the dual motor, which is silent but moves the desk up and down at an impressive speed; oval columns, which are FlexiSpot’s go-to design on more recent models; and the anti-collision function, which prevents the desk from crushing any items left beneath it.
There are also additional compartments for storage. The first is a slender drawer that pulls out where the user sits. If you own a slim wireless keyboard and mouse, this is a good location to store them. Otherwise, it’s a good place to store notebooks, pens, and paper. The second bit of storage is for cable management, with power and other wires tucking away into the provided tray.
With everything set up and ready for work and play, I gave the Q8 a thorough testing in both standing and sitting modes. As I’m 6’7″, I actually exceed the rated 6’5″ that the desk is rated for, but I still found it comfortable to use at the max height.
Maxing out these standing desks really tests stability. I’m happy to say that the Q8 is one of the sturdiest I’ve used, with the thicker, oval legs appearing to limit shaking. With that said, to maintain a wobble-free setup, I would recommend tightening the bolts every 6-12 months, which is what I suggest with any standing desk that is regularly moving weight up and down.
At $808.09 (£699.99), the FlexiSpot Q8 most certainly boasts a flagship price. For those who are willing to invest that amount of money in a desk, perhaps for healthier working from home habits or gaming in a more ergonomic position, then the Q8’s impressive combination of features delivers a top-tier standing desk experience.
If the Q8 is outside of your budget, however, waiting for one of FlexiSpot’s frequent sales might be a good idea. (At the time of writing, FlexiSpot Tech Day is scheduled for September 7-9.)
