An airline worker has shared her top tips for choosing "the best luggage" to protect your belongings during a flight. Megan Homme, who works for an American airline and posts videos under her TikTok username @meganhomme, has amassed 360.5k followers as a result of her viral travel hacks.

She revealed that she "learned the hard way" about the best type of suitcase to select for your journey.

Megan explained that not only does the material of your suitcase make a big difference, but even the colour can help you get the most for your money.

In a video, she said: "This is going to be how to pick out the best luggage. Always look for hard-sided or waterproof luggage.

"You never know what is going o be in someone else's bag, or what is going to be underneath the plane and what could leak on your bag."

Previously, a baggage handler revealed that passengers who pack liquids including perfume or bottles of alcohol can cause problems for staff and other travellers.

Posting to a Reddit forum, the anonymous baggage handler said: "Please don't pack food or drinks in your bag. They rot, break, leak, open.

"It smells. Especially alcohol. Then I smell all day after picking up a bag that leaked on me.

"Same goes for cologne and perfume. Please wrap it well so it doesn't break." [SIC]

If another passenger has a potent substance in their bag which begins to leak, this can seep into surrounding suitcases, especially if they are made of material.

However, material isn't the only thing you should focus on when choosing a suitcase.

Megan continued: "Get a dark colour. If your bag is going under the plane it is going to be scuffed up very quickly.

"I learned that the hard way."

She added: "Get a bag that has four wheels, two wheels get really annoying to drag through the airport after a while.

"Look for a bag that is expandable, you never know what you are going to pick up on a trip and need to fit in your suitcase home."

Although there are lots of high-end suitcases on the market, the airline worker said you "don't need the most expensive luggage" in order to keep your personal items safe while travelling.
