Business partners and former English teachers Charity Harrington and Amy Miller are set to open an independent bookstore.

“We are hoping our bookstore will provide opportunities for people to grow, explore and escape through books,” Harrington said. “We look forward to having a relationship with both the community members and the city of Avondale.”

The bookstore is set to open Oct. 3, with a possible ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 15.

“I don’t believe there are any independent bookstores in this area, so we are excited to be bringing something new to the West Valley,” Harrington said. “We are also hoping to invite authors/poets to do book signings/readings, and then we plan to offer monthly paper crafting classes, book clubs and writing workshops for our customers.”

Phillip Quintana is opening a second version of his business in Avondale. The owner of Tap Savvy Beer in Litchfield Park hosted a soft opening of Tap 2 in Avondale on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18.

“It’s been a long road with emotional twists and turns. But we can’t wait any longer to show you what we’ve been building,” Tap 2 posted on its Instagram page.

Tap 2 will offer a taproom of beer and wine with a full food menu that will pair with the drinks, much like its other establishment, Tap Savvy.
